To protect children, young people and vulnerable adults who visit or participate in StandUP outreach. This includes the children of adults who participate.
To provide volunteers with the overarching principles that guide our approach to safeguarding.
StandUP - Youth Grassroots Animal Rights believes that a child, young person or vulnerable adult should never experience abuse of any kind. We have a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children, young people and vulnerable adults and to keep them safe. We are committed to practice in a way that protects them.
This policy has been drawn up on the basis of law and guidance that seeks to protect children, young people and vulnerable adults, namely:
Children Act 1989
United Convention of the Rights of a Child 1991
Data Protection Act 1991
Sexual Offences Act 2003
Children Act 2005
Care Act 2014

Relevant government guidance to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
We recognise that:
The welfare of a child, young person or vulnerable adult is paramount as enshrined in the Children Act 1989 and the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.
All children, young people and vulnerable adults regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, class, sexual orientation or identity, have a right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.
Some children, young people or vulnerable adults are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of previous experiences, their level of dependency, communication needs or other issues.
Protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults from animal rights extremism and radicalisation must be a priority.
Working in partnership with children, young people, vulnerable adults, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting children, young people and vulnerable adults’ welfare.
We will seek to keep children, young people and vulnerable adults safe by:
Valuing, listening to and keeping them safe.
Adopting safeguarding practices through making all volunteers aware of this policy.
Provide effective guidance to all volunteers.
Recruiting all volunteers safely with safeguarding as a priority.
Ensure all visitors to school groups have the appropriate safety checks, and are cleared by the school.
Not engage with any organisation or activity linked to animal rights extremism or radicalisation.
Sharing information about safeguarding with children, young people, vulnerable adults, parents, carers and volunteers.
Sharing concerns with agencies who need to know, involving children, young people vulnerable adults, parents and carers appropriately.
We are committed to reviewing our policy and good practice annually.
