StandUP Cares: Getting Help

You are awesome. You dedicate so much time and energy into helping animals so thank you for being such an amazing activist. But we understand it can be hard sometimes if you don’t have a great support system, you’re in a stressful or abusive situation or you’re going through tough times at home or with friends.

We value you. StandUP is always here for you so if you need support with a crisis or are having self-harming or suicidal thoughts, we want you to get help.

Animal Activist Support Line, provides 24/7 text, email and live chat support to people who help animals. If you need help with unsupportive family, burnout or if you’re finding the scale of animal exploitation is getting to you - they can help you.

Childline, call 0800 1111, email or enter a live chat with a trained counsellor for free, anytime day or night. Discuss any issue bothering you & it won’t show on your phone bill.

Samaritans, call 116 123 or visit your local branch. Emotional support for anyone feeling down, experiencing distress or struggling to cope. Free, 24/7, confidential.

Depression and Suicide

HOPELine, advice and support service for young people who are having suicidal thoughts. Talk with trained mental health professionals about how you’re feeling and receive support. Call 0800 068 41 41 10am to 10pm weekdays, 2pm to 10pm weekends.

Samaritans, 24 hour suicide & depression prevention and support line. You can receive support, advice and counselling from trained counsellors. Call 116 123 for free day or night, it won’t show on your phone bill.

Domestic Violence, Relationship and Sexual Abuse

National Domestic Violence Helpline, emergency service for victims of domestic abuse. Receive emotional support and be referred to emergency safe accommodation. Call 0808 2000 247, free, 24/7, confidential.

Live Fear Free, support and help for victims of rape, sexual violence, forced marriage, honour violence, slavery, FGM and sexual abuse. Call 0808 8010 800, free, 24/7 confidential.

LGBTQ+ Support

Switchboard, support for LGBTQ+ young people who have experienced discrimination or abuse, support on coming out and information on local support groups. Call 0300 330 0630, 10am - 11pm, confidential.

Drugs Advice

Talk to Frank, confidential drugs advice and assistance in getting help. Call 0300 123 6600, text 8211, 24/7 or enter a live chat, 2pm - 6pm.

Runaways & Homelessness

Runaway Helpline, 24 hour support for young people who have or are going to runaway or are forced to leave their home. They can offer your advice, help you find a safe place to stay, contact other organisations for you and they’ll always listen and not judge. Call or text 116 000 day or night for free.

You can also contact your local council & social care department for emergency housing if staying at home will put you in danger.
